Multibeam and Backscatter Processing
Multibeam and Backscatter processing form a large part of the work taken on by Beam Survey. After acquisition, data sets are transferred to Beam Survey either digitally through the internet, or by hand courier. The multibeam data is then processed to the Clients specifications and the processed data and final deliverable's are transferred back to the Client.
An alternate method involves a remote connection from Beam Survey to the Clients offices via a secure internet connection portal. This allows Beam Survey to process the data on the Clients computers. The benefits of this arrangement are numerous including the fact that the potentially sensitive data does not need to leave the Clients offices. It also eliminates data transfer times and is a great way for Beam Survey to step in and help out in times of need.
Problematic Data Analysis and Correction
A specialty of Beam Survey is handling problematic multibeam data sets. In many cases this is achieved by drawing on the wealth of experience gathered from various field and office based work over the years. We believe that in order to fault find multibeam issues, its necessary to have a solid understanding of the process as a whole. This includes a working knowledge of installation, calibration, acquisition and processing.
Beam Survey provide a full analysis of problematic multibeam data sets to fault find equipment or software setup errors. Errors found are applied to historic data to improve deliverable's and meet Project Specifications. Where applicable, errors are also corrected on board the survey platform to improve future data quality.
Survey System Mobilisation or Analysis
The multibeam system setup and calibration is crucial to acquiring high quality data. Beam Survey can provide site visits to mobilise, fault find or optimize a system setup and perform calibrations where required. Ongoing QA/QC can be done either periodically on site, or through remote analysis of data in realtime during the project. The remote analysis can either be done through data transfer to Beam Survey or through a remote internet connection. Analysis includes a comprehensive look at the setup, equipment integration, update rates, calibrations, input strings, etc.
Data Management
Data Management from small surveys to much larger networks, which may involve manipulation of datasets from various survey platforms to conform to one reference datum. Collation of information from various sources to create one database structure to easily identify, view and manage data from various surveys and sources.
Data Visualization
3D visualization of underwater survey data and integration of information layers, including photos and vessel models, to create composite images and movies for marketing and data showcase purposes. The objective is to make an attractive set of images, movies and other products to best show off your dataset.
Training and Procedures
Training can be provided on all aspects of surveying from survey planning to processing and final product generation. This can be done as a series of hands on training exercises, workshops or lectures. From past experience a combination of all three methods provides the best learning experience.
The training is often coupled with an analysis of a Clients needs and formulating a specific data flow modeled on the hardware and software at hand. Part of the analysis also takes into account the desired results and products. Once the best data flow is found, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are written so that the personnel have an easy reference. This then forms the basis for the support provided by Beam Survey after the training.
Support
At Beam Survey we believe that support should form a vital part of a survey companies structure. We provide support in all aspects where we can, but specifically on data flows and procedures that we have worked on in collaboration with a Client. In general we try to help out wherever we can, and are happy to answer questions and provide a bridge between a Client and the various software and hardware companies in the industry.
In the past we have built up a personnel relationship with a Clients surveyors during training and workshop events. This provides a personal relationship and a solid base for communications between ourselves and a Clients surveyors.
